A great photographer can turn this historic gem into a vibrant backdrop for unforgettable images.
Crossing the LeSalle causeway from downtown Kingston, this lovely garden can be found at James St, Kingston, ON K7K 3Y6.
The Barriefield Rock Garden, with its natural rock landscaping and carefully cultivated gardens, is a picturesque location for engagement photos.
Its founder, Bill Robb, was a retired Bell Canada lineman and engineering technician. He cultivated the garden systematically, using an aerial photograph that he marked off as he proceeded. Having volunteered at the local federal prisons, Bill enlisted inmates to help with the gardening, many of whom went on to work in the landscape industry. Over the years, it has earned Kingston Community in Bloom awards and remains a testament to the power of community collaboration.
Rich in community history and lovingly maintained by local volunteers, the garden offers a serene and inviting atmosphere year-round. Framed by mature trees, winding paths, and textured stonework, this hidden gem provides a warm, intimate setting that’s perfect for capturing your genuine, heartfelt moments. This is an excellent location to take your engagement photos in the spring, summer, and fall, where the colour differences in the flowers and foliage will provide endless photo opportunities for those with a great eye.
